In his book "21 Thoughts for the 21st Century" Yuval Noah Harari speaks of "Useless class". This class will be created as a result of the advancement of the development of AI (artificial intelligence) systems. These are advanced systems that, in a few years, will equal and even exceed human thinking and decision-making ability. When these systems become available, they will slowly replace humans with traditional jobs for the simple reason, they will outperform us and their costs will be far cheaper than human labor costs. The result of this technological development will be the transition of a large layer of productive people and contributing to socially and economically useless status.

The book talks about a real occurrence in a few years and estimates that the beginning of change is determined in 10, 20 or 30 years.

And now, in less than two weeks, 30% of the working population of the State of Israel has entered the "useless class" status at once. Without artificial intelligence and no technological development, almost a million people these days are feeling what it is like to get up in the morning without purpose and without meaning. Every day looks like the day before and no one knows when it will end and no less severe, the economic future is uncertain.

So right, apparently the Corona crisis will be successful. It is also very likely that within a few months, most new unemployed will find a living and be able to rehabilitate themselves. At the same time, it is a great opportunity for all of us to pause for a moment and look at the opportunity we have for a moment to live in the human future. This situation may happen again and this time not because of this epidemic but because of something much more dangerous to us as a human society. The AI ​​systems will not go away, they are not a virus that will eventually find a vaccine. After all, if an artificial intelligence system knows how to drive a car better than people, anyone who drives for mony will be no longer needed. It starts with taxi drivers, buses, trains, couriers and continues with insurance agents, when a driving machine does not have to insure it. When an artificial intelligence system knows how to cook better than we do, what will happen to the cooks, when a machine will know how to diagnose distant diseases better than doctors, Doctors will no longer needed, And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The "useless class" in a few years will not only be a temporary phenomenon/ IT is something to start preparing for. Governments all over the world have a responsibility to find solutions from tomorrow morning. But, the solution is not solely the responsibility of the government. Each of us has a responsibility, to himself, to our family and society.

The main insight I have from the situation is that each of us is responsible for the quality of his life and we should already try today to understand what we can do for ourselves so that we will not reach the "useless class" again. The answer lies with each of you.

A little tip, ask yourself what you can give others. Start with your family, continue to society, the environment, the community, the country and the world. When you find this thing, even if it does not make money, it gives meaning to life and you will never feel a part of "useless status".
